This month's theme is Works of Art and the scouts and their families helped us created works of art to give to a family in need. To keep in the spirit of the holiday season, we decided to do a pack service project and decorate a Christmas tree to give to a family without one. Our Primary President, Diana Cook, gave us a wonderful message about serving others and we listen to Christmas music and make decorations.
Thanks to all the scouts and their families who attended and helped us make ornaments and decorate our tree for a family in our stake. We had lots of fun and the finished tree look fantastic. Unfortunately I forgot my camera to take a picture of it. We will definitely have to award everyone with an honorary weaving badge for all their efforts.
Your service has definitely brought joy to a family this Christmas.

Wolf Den Meeting: December 3, 2009
This week we worked on Achievement 12. We learned about courage and that it is not always what you do, but that you can also be courageous by walking away from dangerous people and situations. We discussed several difficult situations and what the boys could themselves or others (Achievement 12 questions).
We also worked on a Cub Scout craft and made cute reindeer out of pine cones. We played a reindeer game ourselves of crab-ball.
Thanks to all the boys for their participation.

I'm sorry I had to miss this den meeting. My family decided to go out of town at the last minute. This week we worked on a skit for pack meeting. Unfortunately there weren't enough boys from our ward at den meeting to completely prepare the skit for pack meeting. We'll continue to work on one so the boy's get an opportunity to perform.

November 2009 Monthly Theme: Cub Scout Salute
“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.” - Helen Keller
This month Cub Scouts salute the heroes who help keep us safe. Can only adults be heroes? No. Heroes are often ordinary kids who do somethings out of the ordinary You can even be "silent heroes" by performing service for others without seeking recognition. Look around and decide what makes a hero and who the heroes of tomorrow might be by looking at people who you know today.

This week we had a special "Cubs in the Kitchen," where the scouts made some creepy peeper snacks (see below for recipe). While our snacks were curing in the kitchen the scouts played a great game of crab ball. It was a close game and the scouts were such great sports.
Next week we will be practicing a skit for November's pack meeting.
Creepy Peepers
Items Needed:
2 cups instant pudding (vanilla/cheesecake)
Raisinets or black jelly beans
Lifesavor gummies
Plastic eggs
Directions:
Insert raisinets or jelly beans into the center of a Lifesaver gummy; place in a plastic egg half. Mix pudding according to package directions (I like to add a little Knox gelatin to give it stability if not eating right away). Pour pudding into plastic egg halves. Place in empty egg carton and put in freezer until firm (about three hours). Take eggs out of freezer and let set 3-5 minutes. Take the back of a fork and gently roll the eye out of the plastic egg half. Serve immediately.
Makes: 24 eyeballs

This week we worked on our marble belt loop. This was quite an interesting week with 14 boys and marbles. They boys learned how to play a basic marble game, some terminology and were able to practice a few shots. After the rules were explained we were able to play a few games of marbles.
The boys did a great job and hopefully found a new game that they will like to play again.

Wolf Den Meeting: October 15, 2009
This week we worked on achievement 4. Scouts were given a list to write down important phone numbers (4a) and also a chart of jobs they have agreed to do (4e), both to be completed at home. We discussed personal safety with the scouts in instances when someone comes to your door or someone is on the phone. We also talked about what needs to be done when you leave your home to keep things safe (4b,c,d).
After working on achievement 4, we played a fun new game of tag. I think it took a little bit to catch on, but they boys seemed to have fun once they got it.

Wolf Den Meeting: October 1, 2009
Luckily the weather cooperated on our visit to Wheeler Farm. It turned out to be a brisk fall afternoon. What a great time we had with the scouts. As we walked through the farm we learned a little bit about the history of the farm. The boys learned what the ponds on the farm were used for; creating ice blocks for the Rosebud Dairy Ice Company. The also learned what kind of horses were on the farm, what kind of machinery was used and even what color of eggs the chickens lay. Life on a farm takes a lot of hard work. I hope the boys were able to learn a little more about that life.
Our visit to Wheeler Farm fulfilled the following:
Wheeler farm patch
Achievement 4f
Achievement 7d
Requirement for collecting belt loop

October 2009 Monthly Theme: Jungle Safari
The jungle is a fun place for boys to explore the exciting world outside their backyards. The history of the Cub Scout story highlights Baloo, the wise old brown bear who taught the wolf cubs the Law of the Pack. The theme provides an opportunity to educate your Cub Scouts about our animal friends of the jungle and the world and the impact we can make on our world by being aware of the need for conservation in all aspects of our lives.

Wolf Den Meeting: September 17, 2009
This week we worked on achievement number six, collections. Tyrell brought his rock collection to share with us. He had so many great rocks. One of his favorites was a rock that was made up of several smaller rocks. Thanks Tyrell.
We also worked on achievement 6b, by collecting leaves from the different trees around the church, labeling them, and posting them on paper. The boys did a great job.
I know several scouts had to leave early this week. Collecting and labeling 10 items is requirement b from achievement six and also one of our collecting belt loop requirements, if your scout was not able to complete labeling and posting his leaves, please work on them at home and let me know if was completed. Also, showing a collection is requirement c from achievement six and also our collecting belt loop. If your scout was not able to present his collection at pack meeting or den meeting this week, please have him present one at home and let me know.
Thanks everyone. Please remember that next week we will be working on a cub scout craft. Please bring any stickers or cut outs of sports/teams/games/hobbies, etc. to create a personalized treasure box.
Also, please remember those consent forms for our Wheeler Farm visit on Oct. 1.

Pack Meeting: September 10, 2009
This month's theme is Cub Scout's Pockets. To go along with the theme, the wolf scouts brought and presented some of their collections. Both Jake Kemp and Jaxon Wilde had great coin collections to show and our Primary President, Diana Cook, brought her wonderful pin collection that she has been acquiring since she was about the boys' age. The wolf scouts also presented an entertaining skit on how to make a cub scout.
This month Brinton Gooch, Garrison Hauet and Jake Kemp received their belt loops from day camp; Astronomy, Archery, Wildlife Conservation and BB Gun. Jake also received his bicycle belt loop along with Jaxon Wilde and Tyrell Gwilliam.
After our award presentations, we had a special program for Braeden Gooch who received his arrow of light. Our special guest was dressed in Native American attire and had Braeden sit in front of him as he told of the special meaning of the arrow of light award. Congratulations Braeden on receiving your arrow of light and advancement onto the Boy Scout's program.

This week we worked on Thank You notes for the firefighters at the Taylorvsille fire station that we visited. Thanks to the scouts for such great drawings, I'm sure the firefighters will love them.
We also worked on a skit for next weeks pack meeting. Please make sure your scout is18 to pack meeting a few minutes early so we can practice again.
Finally, we worked on achievement 18d, creating an obstacle course. The scouts were very creative. Whew,we had a lot to accomplish this week, but we did get everything done.
Just a reminder, please have your scout bring a collection of theirs to pack meeting to display and briefly talk about, and also please complete and return the activity consent form if your scout is planning on attending den meeting October 1st when we go to wheeler farm.

September 2009 Monthly Theme: Cub Scout Pockets
What could be in a Cub Scout's pocket? It can tell a lot about who he is and what he likes. Pockets contain many special things-- items from the boys' collection, maybe; or important phone numbers, or a note home. Pockets, like boys, have special qualities. Start exploring both.
Wolf Den Meeting: August 27, 2009
This week was our big outing to the Taylorsville fire station. Thank you to everyone for coming on time and we apologize again for being late coming back.
I think the scouts had such a great time. They were able to find our what a typical day is like for the fire fighters and what happens when a call comes in. We were able to see where the fire fighters eat, sleep and hang out while on call and of course, the highlight of the visit, we were able to see their fire truck.
Apparently there is a difference between a fire truck and a fire engine. A fire truck has the big ladder on top, and a fire engine is a bit smaller and carries more water. They showed us all of their equipment on the truck and also showed us what fire fighters wear when called out to a fire.
This visit it to help the scouts complete achievement 9c. Parents, please go through your house and make sure your home has at least one smoke detector and check the battery. Also please review a family escape plan from your house. This will complete achievement 9c for your scout.

This week we completed achievement 7. We worked on 7d, which is a service project to pick up litter in our neighborhood. The boys did a great job of being good citizens and doing a good turn as we walked around the church and a surrounding neighborhood cleaning up litter. We also counted this service project towards our Leave No Trace service requirement (number 4).
Just a reminder, next week we will be visiting the Taylorsville Fire Station. We will need a consent form completed for each scout who wished to attend. This outing will also help completed part of requirement 9c.

I apologize for the delay in posting about our first den meeting this month. I honestly just forgot about it until this week.
This week we worked on achievement 7 a-c, e & f. We learned about our world
and the ways in which we can take care of it. We discussed our environment and ways in which we can respect and conserve our natural resources.
We also worked on our Leave No Trace badge by discussing the frontcountry guidelines and drawing a poster to illustrate the guidelines.
If your scout was not able to attend this week and would still like to work on the Leave No Trace award, please refer to the requirements in the back of the Wolf handbook, page 227.

Pack Meeting: August 8, 2009
This month's pack meeting has been highly anticipated all year, the big Pinewood Derby event. We decided to combine with the other wards that the wolf den meet with for their weekly meetings. It was a great turnout. I think all of the boys and their families had a great time.
The boys did such a great job on their cars, they look fantastic, and were all very good sports.
The overall winner of the pinewood derby was Cameron V. (sorry can't remember his last name) from the Crosspointe ward. Below is a picture of Cameron with his winning car, which also won the award for the most elegant.
Wyatt Openshaw (bear den) came in second place, Antonio Milner (from other ward) received third place, and though we only went to third place I thought I'd mention that another one of our bear's, Clint Christensen, came in fourth place. Congratulations to everyone that worked so hard and participated. We had a great time.
Below are the awards received for the Cimarron scouts:
Most Original Design: Caden Van
Most Unusual Shape: Shayne Zullo

I've been so excited for this den meetings. It is so great to get out on a nice summer day and ride a bike. Our bike ride started at Winchester Park with a review on proper bike safety. After we rode along the Jordan River Parkway to the park on 5400 S. It was a very warm day, but the scouts did such a great job during the bike ride and even earned their bicycle belt loop. Congratulations.
Next week will be our Pinewood Derby Pack Meeting on Saturday, August 8th at 4:00 p.m. at the Crosspointe church. Hope to see everyone there.

We welcomed two new scouts this month at pack meeting. Adam Hildt and Jaxon Wilde are our two newest Wolf scouts. Welcome to cub scouts, we hope you'll have lots of fun.
We had lot of belt loops to hand out this month earned from day camp. Those boys that attended both days of day camp received the BB Gun belt loop, Wildlife Conservation belt loop, Archery belt loop and Astronomy belt loop. Congratulations to all the boys. We had a great time at day camp.
This month's theme is be a good sport. We talked about what it means to be a good sport and playing fair then played a few relay games and some team games. I think the boys had a great time. Especially with the cup and plate staking game. (One boy had to lay on the ground while his teammates alternately stacked cups of water and paper plates balanced on his forehead.) I think our record was three cups.
After we completed our games, the boys received their good sport award certificate and a pinewood derby car to work on for the pinewood derby scheduled next month for pack meeting. Just a reminder, August's pack meeting will be on Saturday the 8th at 4:00 p.m. at the Crosspointe church.
Thanks to all the boys and families that came and participated in pack meeting. We'll see you next month. Good luck on those cars.

July 2009 Monthly Theme: Be a Sport
Not only is it important to do your best when you try new sports, it's also important to understand the rules of being a "good sport" no matter how the game goes.
What is good sportsmanship? You might say it is being a good loser. That's part of it. Nobody likes to lose. But when you do lose, you should grin and bear it. Don't complain about bad luck or wrong decisions by the officials. Just make up your mind to do better next time.
But there's more to good sportsmanship than being a good loser. It also means playing fair. A good sport does not cheat. He plays by the rules, even if he knows he could cheat and get away with it. You will never know if you are good at something unless you follow the rules.
A good sport plays hard. He plays to win-- but to win fairly. Remember, whether your win or lose at any event, you are all winners in life.
The Good Sport Code:
1. Obey the rules.
2. Never brag when you win.
3. Don't quit when you're losing.
4. Take turns.
5. Help others enjoy the game.

Wolf Den Meeting: June 25, 2009
Don't panic if you think you forgot den meeting this week. Since we've combined with another ward we still held den meeting this week, but the scouts from Cimarron weren't expected to attend because of scout camp this weekend.
If your scout did come, he probably had lots of fun. This week we held our flag ceremony and pledge outside and raised and lowered the flag to pass off some requirements on achievement 2. The rest of the meeting was filled with fun games.
We started off playing the milk carton game. If you've been a wolf recently or were at the last pack meeting, you'll remember this game. After we had a race involving nylons, tennis balls and whiffle balls. How could it not have been fun, and interesting? We ended the meeting with the candy trap game, (buttons on string, pot lid, dice and of course candy), this game was also played at our last pack meeting. I must say that our other wolf leader, Cynthia, is quite the candy trap player. I think she had almost every piece of candy at one point.
Again, we had lots of fun this week. If your scout missed, don't worry, I'm sure we'll be playing these game again.

Wolf Den Meeting: June 18, 2009
This week at den meeting we had lots of new scouts. Welcome to all our new scouts we are so glad you here and look forward to having lots of fun.
We worked on the rest of achievement 2 this week completing 2 d,e and g. The boys did such a great job learning how to raise and lower the U.S. flag from a flagpole and also folding the flag. We also learned about the Utah state flag and colored a picture of our own.
Next week is our day camp. Hope to see everyone there bright and early.

Summer Fun
Yay, school is out and if you are looking for some fun things to do this summer with your scouts and your family, click here for a list of fun places to visit. Scouts can earns fun activity patches by visiting several local venues and completing questionnaires available at each site. Just make sure you show your den leader your completed questionnaire to get your patch.
Have fun this summer!

Pack Meeting: June 11, 2009
We missed several of the boys at this month's pack meeting, but had lots of fun with those who were there.
This month's theme was A-Camping We Will Go, so we played several games that you might play at a camp out. The boys seemed to have lots of fun, especially with those games that involved candy.
This last month has been kind of busy with the end of school and beginning of summer and many other extra activities that the boys have been involved in, so unfortunately there were no awards received this month. Hopefully next month after day camp we will have lot of awards to present.
Just a reminder that this month we will be going to day camp Friday, June 26th and Saturday, June 27th from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We will be leaving the church at 7:45 a.m. on both days, so please have your scout there ahead of time.
Hopefully we'll see everyone next month.

This month we will be working on achievement 2 in our handbook. To start off we learned a little more about the Pledge of Allegiance and its meaning (achievement 2a) we then learned how to show respect for the U.S. flag and different ways to display it inside and outside (achievement 2c).
We also continued to work on our physical skills: Pull-ups, Sit-ups, Standing long jump, and the 50-yard dash.

Wolf Den Meeting: May 28, 2009
We were so glad to have more scouts join us this week. We didn't realize that last week's den meeting was so close to the Memorial holiday weekend.
We basically had a repeat meeting of last week. We worked on requirements for our physical fitness beltloop by having a discussion about drugs and alcohol and finding our pulse and figuring out our target heart rates. We also continued to work on our physical skills: Pull-ups, Sit-ups, Standing long jump, 50-yard dash, and Softball throw.
Thanks for everyone that came. It was a fun den meeting.

Wolf Den Meeting: May 21, 2009
This week we welcomed our newest scout, Tyrell Gwilliam, to the wolf den. It is great to have another scout join us.
This week we worked on two other requirements for our physical fitness beltloop by having a discussion about drugs and alcohol and finding our pulse and figuring out our target heart rates. Since we did not have many scouts in attendance this week, we will be working on these same requirements next week. However, if you would like to, you can still have a discussion with your scout. Below are the steps to finding a pulse and target heart rate if you would also like to do this at home with your scout.
If your scout was not able to attend this week, and would still like to work towards the beltloop, they are encouraged to work on the skills mentioned last week: Pull-ups, Sit-ups, Standing long jump, 50-yard dash, and Softball throw.
Measuring Your Heat Rate:
The easiest place to feel your own heart beat is the carotid artery. Place your index finger on the side of your neck between the middle of your collar bone and jaw line. You can count the beats for a full 60 seconds or count for 6 seconds and add a zero at the end. (Example: If you felt your heart beat 14 times in 6 seconds, your heart rate would be 140). The longer you count the more accurate your reading.
How to Calculate Your Target Heart Rate:

The longer you count the more accurate your reading.
How to Calculate Your Target Heart Rate:
- Find your resting heart rate as soon as you wake up. You can do this by counting your pulse for one minute while still in bed. You may average your heart rate over three mornings to obtain your average resting heart rate (RHR). Add the three readings together, and divide that number by three to get the RHR. For example,
(76 + 80 + 78) / 3= 78. - Find your maximum heart rate and heart rate reserve.
- Subtract your age from 220. This is your maximum heart rate (HRmax). For example, the HRmax for a 24-year-old would be
220 - 24 = 196. - Subtract your RHR from your HRmax. This is your heart rate reserve (HRmaxRESERVE). For example,
HRmaxRESERVE = 196 - 78 = 118
- Subtract your age from 220. This is your maximum heart rate (HRmax). For example, the HRmax for a 24-year-old would be
- Calculate the lower limit of your THR. Figure 60% of the HRmaxRESERVE (multiply by 0.6) and add your RHR to the answer. For example,
(118 * 0.6) + 78 = 149. - Calculate the upper limit of your THR. Figure 80% of the HRmaxRESERVE (multiply by 0.8) and add your RHR to the answer. For example,
(118 * 0.8) + 78 = 172. - Combine the values obtained in steps 3 and 4 and divide by the number 2. For example,
(149 + 172) / 2 = 161

Pack Meeting: May 14, 2009
This months theme for pack meeting was Jurassic Pack, so our activities tried to have a little prehistoric edge.
The boys started off the pack meeting by playing a nest game, where one boy was the dinosaur protecting his eggs (tennis balls) from the other boys trying to steal them. We also had a relay race where the boys had to don dino feet (cereal boxes). It was fun to see them try and keep the boxes on their feet.
I think by far the most popular game was our compass dino egg treasure hunt. The boys were split into two teams. They had to follow a trail of compass coordinates given to find their end prize, dino eggs (balloons filled with candy). The boys did a great job. I think we'll have to try this activity again, just to keep our compass skills intact.
For Awards this month, congratulations to our newest scout Jake Kemp, who has already completed his Bobcat badge requirements. Jake also received his Map and Compass beltloop and pin.

Wolf Den Meeting: May 7, 2009
This week was our first meeting combined with the Riverview ward. Unfortunately none of the Cimarron scouts were able to make this meeting, but I had a great time getting to know the new scouts we will be holding meetings with.
This month we are working on achievement 1 in our Wolf handbook and our physical fitness belt loop. We completed achievements 1a-g in our handbook. Since these achievements are ones that can be done in a single den meetings, we can do them another week or scouts can work on them at home if they were not present this week.
We also started to work on our physical fitness belt loop. We will be working on the following skills each week this month:
Pull-ups, Sit-ups, Standing long jump, 50-yard dash, and Softball throw
If a scout is not able to attend a week in which we work on these skills, please work on them at home.

May 2009 Monthly Theme: Leave Nothing but Footprints
Warm weather is a perfect time for outdoor adventure. As we enjoy our outdoor world, we should strive to take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints. Learn about how to minimize your impact on the environment. Do your Good Turn and leave outdoor areas cleaner than you found them.
Notice: Wolf Den Meeting Change
Since we currently have only a few Wolf's in our den, we will be joining with another Wolf den in our stake for den meetings. Beginning in May, we will be temporarily joining the Riverview ward Wolf den for weekly den meetings. Our new den meeting time will be on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. at the Crosspoint church. The room we will meet in will be located on the West side of the building.
I hope this will give the boys in our den a chance to have some fun with other scouts and we will be able to do a few more activities and play more games then we would have otherwise where our den is so small at present.
Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Wolf Den Meeting: April 14, 2009
This week started our new theme of Jurassic Pack. We talked a little bit about the different kind of dinosaurs and then created their own dinosaur skeletons. The boys named their dinosaurs and drew pictures of the dinosaurs they created. We also wrote about our dinosaurs, What they ate, where they slept and what they did. The boys are very creative. This completed some electives for us.
I hope the boys had a great time and continue to use their imaginations.

April 2009 Monthly Theme: Jurassic Pack
Explore the land before time! Imagine living in a time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. What have paleontologists learned about the great beasts that roamed the Earth millions or years ago? Did any dinosaurs live where you do now? Find out what they ate, where they lived, and how they moved. What could we learn of these creatures that lived so long ago?
Wolf Den Meeting: March 31, 2009
We were so excited to have Jake at our den meeting. This was Jake's first den meeting as a new cub scout. We decided that since it was technically still March, we would go ahead and have another den meeting on careers.
This week we talked about cartography, map making, and worked on our Map and Compass belt loop. We were able to learn about the features of a map; scales, latitude, longitude, compass rose; and how to follow a compass and orient a map. We also talked about how compasses worked and made our very own compass. Jake did a great job being a cartographer in making his own map of his neighborhood.
Thanks for a fun den meeting.

Pack Meeting: March 24, 2009
Our Pack Meeting this month centered around careers. Our special guest John Droge came and told us a little bit about his job. I apologize I don't remember his specific job title, but I do remember he analyzes car crashes and injuries incurred for insurance purposes. The boys seemed to really enjoy his slide presentation since it was filled with pictures of auto crashes. He also brought along his "dork" helmet, which is a device that measures head trauma. The boys enjoyed putting on the helmet and seeing what kind of trauma they could create when shaking their heads. Thank you John for coming and sharing with us.
This month we welcomed in a new Cub Scout, Jake Kemp. Welcome to cub scouting and the Wolf den Jake.
Brinton Gooch received his Wolf Badge, Gold Arrowhead and Geography belt loop. Brinton also moved on to the Bear den. Congratulations Brinton.
Garrison Hauet received his Citizenship belt loop and Marble belt loop
The rest of the Bear den also received their Marble belt loops. Congratulations to everyone and thanks for another great pack meeting.

Wolf Den Meeting: March 17, 2009
Though the theme for this month is focused towards careers, we are going to back up and finish our geology belt loop since we have not had the opportunity to in the past few weeks.
We started by having a little quiz of states and capitals on a GeoSafari. If anyone is familiar with this game it can get quite addictive. The scouts had a great time playing the game.
We completed our geography belt loop by learning about some of the major land forms in Utah, the continents, hemispheres, longitude and latitude lines and how to use them to locate a coordinate.
Next week will be our pack meeting for the month.

This month we celebrate the birthday of the Cub Scouting program with our Blue and Gold Banquet. This month's theme, American ABC's was the theme for our party. We had a wonderful meal including ABC's in our soup.
The Wolf scouts put on an interesting skit which they proudly came up with themselves. Garrison Hauet received his wolf badge along with a gold and silver arrowhead and the language and culture belt loop. Brinton Gooch also received the language and culture belt loop.
The entire Bear den received their geography belt loop.
A special congratulations to Garrison on getting his Wolf badge and moving onto the Bear den.

Wolf Den Meeting: February 3, 2009
I was so happy for the great turn out that we had at den meeting this week. Brinton brought along his friend Cooper and we were excited to have Clint and Wyatt come.
This month we are celebrating the birthday of the cub scouts for our pack meeting, the annual Blue and Gold Banquet. The scouts made the invitations for their families for our pack meeting. Just to note, pack meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be provided.
This week we also finished the requirements for the Language and Culture belt loop by learning 10 words in another language and playing a game from a different culture. The scouts did such a great job at learning the new words. I was impressed at how many they already knew (mostly greetings). We also played the dreidel game, which the scouts seemed to really enjoy.
If any of the scouts would like to earn the Language and Culture belt loop but missed January's pack meeting or the den meeting on January 20th, they will need to play another game from a different culture or country and talk to someone who is from another country about what it is like living in that country. Please let me know if the scouts complete these requirements.

February 2009 Theme: American ABCs
Take a personalized tour of the U.S.A. by the letters: Austin, Baton Rouge, and Cambridge to Xenia, York and Zion. Our country contains an endless variety of scenic and historic places.
Our country's name expresses the principles that we hold sacred as citizens of the United States of America.
"U" is for united. We are a country of citizens united under one government and dedicated to the cause of freedom and peace.
"S" is for states. Our country is a union of 50 states. We are proud of our individual histories, but we come together to defend what is right.
"A" is for America -- a land of promise filled with opportunity and beauty. America is a patchwork quilt of cultures and a stronghold of religious liberty.

Pack Meeting: January 27, 2009
What a great pack meeting we had this month. We started out with a guest speaker, Eric Betts, who talked to the boys about growing up in Canada. I think the boys' favorite fact was that it could get so cold in some parts of Canada that if you spit it could freeze before hitting the ground. Thanks Eric for taking the time to come and talk to us.
Awards:
Wolf-
Brinton Gooch: chess and citizenship belt loops
Garrison Hauet: chess belt loop
Tyson Collett: Wolf badge, golden arrow head, citizenship, chess and language and culture belt loops
Bear-
Joseph Black: chess and language and culture belt loops
Ryan Lake: chess and language and culture belt loops
Caden Van: chess and language and culture belt loops
A special congratulations to Tyson on getting his Wolf badge and moving onto the Bear den.

Wolf Den Meeting: January 20, 2009
Today the scout made their own game, a tangram.
The tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes, called tans, which are put together to form shapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific shape (given only in outline or silhouette) using all seven pieces, which may not overlap. [Definition obtained from Wikipedia]
After making their tangram shapes, the scouts had several objects to try and create and even made up their own forms. The boys are encouraged to take the puzzle home and play it with their families to complete Achievement 10b.
Next week will be our monthly pack meeting on Tuesday, January 27. Come prepared to play some games to end out month of A-Maze-ing Games and have fun.

Wolf Den Meeting: January 13, 2009
This week at den meeting we worked on our Chess belt loop. I was impressed that Brinton knew so much about the game. The boys did a great job naming the pieces, learning how each piece moves and setting up a board. Each game they played they were able to develop better strategies.
Next week we will be making a game that the boys can take home and play with their families.

Wolf Den Meeting: January 6, 2009
This month is all about games and I am excited because I love brain teaser games. For den meeting this week I had the boys try and put together a cube puzzle. I was impressed by the concentration that they displayed while putting the puzzle together. It took a while, but both boys were able to complete the puzzle, twice.
Next week we will be working on our Chess belt loop.
